What to Expect & Preparing for Your Appointment

Choose the Experience That Feels Right for Your Family At The Welcome Waggin’, you have two warm, connected, comfort-focused ways to receive care:

In-Home Veterinary Care

Gentle, low-stress visits in the place pets love most — your home. Perfect for every pet, especially those who thrive with familiarity, calm, and connection.

Our Boutique Veterinary Care Center

A cozy, semi-open, intentionally designed space that feels more like a welcoming home than a clinic. Ideal for dentistry, surgical procedures, advanced diagnostics, and families who prefer an onsite experience grounded in warmth and hospitality.

What to Expect at Your Visit

No matter where we meet you — in your living room or in our Care Center — you can expect:

  • Gentle, low-stress handling

  • A calm, unhurried appointment

  • Transparency and open communication

  • Time for questions and shared decision-making

  • A relationship-centered approach focused on comfort and connection

Appointment Length

Most appointments last 30–60 minutes per pet. This allows our team to move at your pet’s pace, answer your questions, and provide thorough, individualized care.

In-home visits may run slightly longer due to:

  • acclimating pets in their environment

  • additional connection time

  • navigating the home setting

When multiple pets are being seen during a single visit, appointments may take up to 90 minutes so that each family member receives the attention they deserve. This is intentional. This is not rushed medicine — it’s relationship-based care built on presence, trust, and compassion.

If You’re Scheduling an In-Home Appointment

Your Arrival Window Because we are on the road caring for families throughout the area, you will receive a 3–4 hour arrival window rather than a strict appointment time.

Please allow flexibility for:

•    traffic

•    weather

•    extended care needs at earlier appointments

•    patient emergencies

Our Travel Team will text you when they are officially en route.

Preparing for Your Appointment

Make Your Pet Accessible To ensure a smooth and stress-free visit, please have your pet ready and easy to locate when we arrive.

We recommend:

•    Closing bedroom doors

•    Preventing access to hiding spaces (under beds, behind furniture, basements)

•    Keeping shy or anxious pets in a small, secure room

•    Having dogs leashed with a collar

Searching for or chasing pets increases anxiety and may result in additional handling fees.

Let Us Know About Additional

Concerns Before your appointment, please inform us if:

•    new symptoms have appeared

•    your pet’s condition has changed

•    you have new questions or behavioral concerns

•    another pet in the home also needs care

This ensures we schedule enough time to give every pet the care they deserve.

Fasting, Samples & Preventive Screening

Annual Screening & Semi Annual Screenings

All pets:

•    Annual and semi-annual stool samples to monitor for intestinal parasites (A fresh sample from the day of your appointment is ideal.)

Dogs:

•    Annual heartworm test and tick-borne disease screening

Outdoor cats or cats living with dogs:

•    Year-round parasite prevention is recommended

(Fleas, ticks, and intestinal parasites are easy to track indoors!)

Adult & Senior Screening

For adult and older pets, early detection is essential to supporting long-term health, comfort, and quality of life. We recommend:

•    Annual bloodwork & urinalysis to monitor kidney, liver, thyroid, and metabolic function

•    Fasting for 10–12 hours prior to the appointment (unless medically unsafe)

•    Fresh urine sample (dogs) collected the morning of the appointment

If you are unable to collect a urine sample, don’t worry — we can discuss comfortable alternative options during your visit.

Cancellations & Rescheduling

We kindly request 24-hour notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Late cancellations may incur a $70 travel fee for in-home visits.
